This was a project to create three book covers to a series. For the project you had to pick a historical designer and base the design on that person's work. These book covers were inspired by Ladislav Sutnar.
I took inspiration from him both from the character illustrations and information design. The lines going through every picture are inspired by different graphs he used in his information design. His characters also had a lot of shapes that built them up, for example the very round head.
I chose to use the heel illustration instead of the face because it was too similar to the half body since they both showed the shoulders. I tried multiple different color combinations but settled on using white as a base and the primary colors rotated between main illustration, detail and line so that all of the colors were equally represented between the three pictures and then I used black for small details.
